Dr. James Sabater Donato finished his medical preparatory course majoring in Psychology in 1967 at Manila’s oldest university, University of Santo Tomas. he pursued his medical studies at Far Eastern University Dr. Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation and obtained his M.D degree and license in 1973.
Dr. Donato went to the then West Germany. He was admitted at the Department of Anesthesia and Intensive Care of St. Elizabeth Hospital, Iserlohn and Letmathe’s Marien Hospital. To further his expertise, he was admitted at Anesthesia and ICU Department of Hagen City General Hospital and Women’s Clinic. During his stay in Hagen , Dr Donato took courses in Ear Acupuncture and Ear Electric Stimulation Anesthesia or Aurikulo-Electro Stimulations Anesthesie (AESA). After finishing the course, he was the first one to introduce Ear Acupuncture Anesthesia at Hagen City Hospital. Dr. Donato learned and trained in Extra-Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO ) in the same hospital.
Dr. Donato went back to his country in 1986 and was Consultant Anesthesiologist at Waterous General Hospital in Manila. In 1992, he joined Saqr Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah , UAE Ministry of Health. Aside from attending to the busy rigors of a tertiary hospital, Dr. Donato was chosen as one of the Ministry’s examiner and evaluator of anesthesiologists applicants to the Ministry of Health; and at times, a member of an investigating panel for mortalities related to anesthesia.
Dr. Donato worked at Saqr Hospital for 23 years, in 2015 he joined Belhoul Specialty Hospital’s Anesthesia & ICU Department until 2021, and Valiant Clinic and Hospital for a short period. He also worked at Al Tadawi Hospital and Dubai London Hospital before joining International Modern Hospital on 7 December 2023.
